According to reports, Everton have submitted a £39 million bid for Benfica forward Raul Jimenez but the Toffees have been informed that they will have to increase their bid to at least £44 million if they wish to land the player.

The high asking price is strange considering that Jimenez struggled for game time last season, managing to start just six League games.

Nonetheless Everton are on the market for new strikers as Romelu Lukaku is set to depart the club this summer in order to achieve his goal of playing in the UEFA Champions League and Jimenez is a viable target.

Thus far, they have signed Sandro Ramirez from Malaga, while they are also said to be interested in signing Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud.

The Mexico international Jimenez played a role in his country’s recent Confederations Cup campaign, where they reached the semi-finals and he scored in the match against New Zealand.

In January, the 26-year-old was the subject of a bid from the Chinese Super League, which was rejected by Benfica.
