Aston Villa chief confirms interest in midfielder; Deal close

According to Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce, Glenn Whelan will add steel and determination’ to the Championship outfit.

Bruce remains confident of luring the 33-year-old Whelen ahead of next season. Stoke City have already rejected a bid of £500,000 for Whelan, who has one year left on his current deal with the club.

Villa are hoping to add Whelan to their side in order to add know-how to the team as well as try and launch a Premier League promotion push next season.

Whelan is very experienced, having been a member of the Stoke squad since 2008. His knowledge at the highest level could be of benefit to the Villa side next season, should a transfer go ahead.

Villa chief executive Keith Wyness confirmed that a transfer is on the cards and said, “People are in different parts of the world just now so that one could take another couple of weeks.”
