It has been confirmed that West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna has signed a new five year contract with the club which will keep him at the London Stadium until 2022.
The Italian internatonal Ogbonna had to miss the second half of last season through knee surgery which he underwent in January, though he did manage to return by the final match of the season.
Ogbonna has been capped by the Italian national team 13 times. He will be part of West Ham’s pre-season tour of Germany and Austria where he will have to prove to manager Slaven Bilic that he is capable of being a first team regular next season.
Upon the signing the deal, Ogbonna said, “I’m really grateful for this new deal. Our position last year was quite high and we are looking forward to improving next season.
“My target is that I can’t wait to get back playing. I think we have a long season ahead and for me my target is to be better than last season. We finished in 11th position but very close to eighth position and we know we can do better than what we did last year.
“I am excited to show my quality on the pitch and the support is always amazing, even when I had my injury. We have got lots of experience in the team at the moment, which is very good.”
