Newcastle reportedly set to miss out on top summer target

According to the reports in The Chronicle, Pepe Reina, who is wanted by Newcastle United, “wants to stay” in Naples and extend his contract with the Italian club.

The 34-year-old keeper is also aware of the fact that Napoli is thinking about long-term future, and they are already considering a replacement for Reina.

According to several sources, the Argentinean goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Real Sociedad could replace the veteran Spaniard between the posts.

Rafa Benitez, the current manager of Newcastle United, is a big fan of Reina, and they already had two successful spells when working together in Liverpool and Napoli.

Reina’s contract with the Italians will expire this summer, and he was offered a one-year extension, but he still hasn’t decided to put pen to paper.

It remains to be seen how this transfer saga will unfold in the future. Benitez is also interested in Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, but Reina remains on the top of his wish list.
