Newly signed Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has said that the England under-21 side will be eager to improve following their semi-final defeat in the European Under-21 Championship at the hands of Germany.
The match in Tychy ended 2-2 and Germany went on to prevail 4-3 on penalties. Julian Pollersbeck managed to save Nathan Redmond’s penalty which earned the Germans a place in the final.
The match brought an end to the under-21 caeeers of Pickford, Redmond, James Ward-Prowse and Nathaniel Chalobah, though other players from the squad will have another chance to play in the under-21 Championships in two years time.
Pickford said, “We’re all disappointed but we have a lot of lads who will have the chance to come again to the tournament in two years and then there’s others like myself who have to try and kick on and get in the senior squad.
“Everybody is going to be hungry. We all want to get better as a group and individually. We did ourselves proud even though we didn’t get to the final.”
