According to Winner Sports, Newcastle United and Sunderland AFC are locked in a battle to sign Andreas Samaris, a highly rated Benfica midfielder.
Reportedly, the Magpies have offered £13 million for his services, but Portuguese club is still weighing their options. Apparently, the Black Cats have also shown an interest in the player, but their ongoing efforts to sign Samaris have been fruitless so far.
The 28-year-old joined Benfica in 2014 from Olympiakos in a transfer worth €10 million, and it seems that he is willing to move to England over the summer.
The Greek international has managed to record 73 league appearances for Benfica, scoring only two goals. However, his technique and composure could make him a fine addition to Rafa Benitez’ squad, and Samaris could be paired with Jonjo Shelvey in the middle of the park.
