As The Northern Echo reports, Newcastle United have inquired about a possible transfer of Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva to St. James Park.
According to the reports, Rafa Benitez has shown a considerable interest in the idea of joining forces with the Brazilian midfielder once again.
As a matter of fact, Benitez was the one who brought Leiva to the Premier League way back in 2007. At the time, Liverpool paid Gremio £5 million for his services.
Leiva is now nearing the end of his time at Anfield, and at 30 years of age – he will most likely not see much first-team football in the upcoming period with Liverpool. That is why Newcastle could be the perfect fit for the veteran player, who will bring much-needed experience and composure to the team.
Benitez needs a man he can trust in the deep-lying role, and Leiva is certainly capable of responding to the challenges of the Premier League.
