This Sunday, June 18, 2017 (11:00 AM Pacific) Cameroon will play Chile at the Otkrytiye Arena in Moscow, Russia for a group stage match in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. Both teams will look for the best possible start to the competition in Group B of the Cup.

Cameroon qualified for the 2017 Confederations Cup by winning the Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the year. The African side has won three out of its last five games but is coming off a tough 4-0 loss to Colombia in a friendly match that was played in Spain. Hugo Broos does count with a strong squad with the standouts being offensive players like Benjamin Moukandjo, Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi. Broos’ back line was a force in the 2017 AFCON and should fare well in this competition with a very formidable goalkeeper in Fabrice Ondoa. The Indomitable Lions will have a tough game coming up against one of the favorites to win it all but should still have a solid showing in the encounter.

Chile qualified for the competition by winning the 2015 Copa America in dramatic fashion against Argentina in penalties. The South American side is not in the best form, only winning two out of its last five games. The latest result for La Roja was a 3-2 loss against Romania and its two wins in this shaky run of form came against Burkina Faso and Venezuela.

Juan Antonio Pizzi’s best players are, of course, Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez but the skipper also counts with a strong core of Liga MX players in the attack. Edson Puch of Necaxa, Martin Rodriguez of Cruz Azul and Eduardo Vargas of Tigres UANL are some of the more potent Liga MX players on the squad that may shine in this competition. The match should be a hard-fought encounter with no clear winner, despite Chile heading into the game as the favorites.
