ESPN FC reports that the talented Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is unclear about his future at Newcastle United and that he could yet change colors during the summer transfer window.
Mitrovic has reportedly stated that he still has 3 years left on his contract, but, at the same time – he is open to talks if the right offer comes along.
He said, “I’m very happy to help Newcastle back to the Premier League because that’s where the club deserves to be. I heard something about other clubs but for now I just want to rest. I need to prepare for next season.
“If some good offers for me — which are also good for the club — come in for me over the summer then we will speak about it. If it doesn’t happen then I’m still a Newcastle United player, I have three years on my contract. So we have to speak to the club, to the manager [Rafael Benitez] and we will see.”
The 22-year-old attacker has helped the Magpies get promoted to the Premier League, but over the course of his stay at the club, he showed only sporadic glimpses of his true potential.
His move from Anderlecht cost Newcastle United £14.5 million. However, Mitrovic has scored only 13 goals in 59 appearances for the club, which is far below than what was expected of him.
On the other hand, he regularly scores for his national team, and with the help of his 5 goals, Serbia is sitting on the top of their group in the World Cup qualifiers. This fact could attract lucrative offers for the attacker, and Newcastle could off-load their star player after all.
