New Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk has spoken out about why he opted to leave Leeds United this past season.
Monk impressed many this past season by guiding the Yorkshire club to a seventh place finish in the Championship and narrowly missing out on a place in the promotion playoffs.
Many fans of the club had hoped that he would remain at the club to try and secure promotion to the Premier League next season, though it was not to be.
Monk has since revealed reasons behind why he opted to leave the Whites and join Middlesbrough, who were relegated from the Premier League this past season.
He said, “I think it’s important to make clear it’s two separate situations. Obviously having the season I had with Leeds and expecting them to go forward in that process, we couldn’t quite find that (agreement).
“Then I became a manager out of a job and I’m ambitious and I want to keep working so Middlesbrough had all those boxes ticked that I was looking for.”
