Aston Villa reportedly have bid for international midfielder rejected

According to the reports by Sky Sports, Stoke City have rejected a £500,000 bid for Glenn Whelan, and this means that Aston Villa’s manager, Steve Bruce, will have to improve his offer if he wants to add much-needed experience to the squad.

Glenn Whelan, a 33-year-old veteran, joined Stoke in 2008, and over the years, the defensive midfielder has recorded more than 300 appearances and scored 8 goals for the club.

However, his manager, Mark Hughes, is well-stocked in the midfield area, with the likes of Joe Allen, Charlie Adam, and Gianelli Imbula being favorites for the place in the starting line-up.

With the arrival of Darren Fletcher from WBA, Whelan will move further down the pecking order, and this is why his departure from Stoke is imminent.

Steve Bruce has yet to make a move in the summer transfer window, having spent over £20 million in January. Whelan would be a fine addition to a team challenging for a Premier League return, but the next bid from Villa will have to be higher.
