This Sunday, June 11, 2017 (9:00 AM Pacific) Finland will host Ukraine at the Ratinan Stadion for a UEFA 2018 World Cup qualifying match. Both teams still have a chance at making the 2018 World Cup and will look to keep their hopes alive in this game.
Finland has been one of the weaker teams in the competition, currently fifth in Group I with only one point. The Nordic side has only won one game out of its last six in all competitions, this includes a 1-0 loss to Ukraine in this run of poor form. Some of the more intriguing players on the squad hail from the German Bundesliga in Niklas Moisander of Werder Bremen and Joel Pohjanpalo of Bayer Leverkusen. Finland is the underdog heading into the encounter but is still capable of pulling off a surprise in front of the home crowd.
Ukraine is doing much better in the qualifiers, currently third in Group I with eight points. The Yellow-Blue suffered its first loss in this qualifying stage, earlier in the year, falling 1-0 to Croatia. Most of the players on the Eastern European side do play domestically in Ukraine but perhaps the most notable player is Yevhen Konoplyanka of Bundesliga side, Schalke 04. The match should be one that Ukraine should win but it is always tough to get a favorable result away from home in these qualifiers.
