Southampton reportedly set to replace Puel with 38-year-old manager

According to reports, former Leeds United boss Garry Monk has been linked with Southampton.

Current Saints boss Claude Puel is said to be close to being sacked and Monk is reported to be keen on returning to Southampton, 13 years after leaving as a player. Monk left Leeds at the end of the past season after disagreements with the club over a new deal.

Though the Saints finished in eighth position in the Premier League and also reached the EFL Cup final, director of football Les Reed and Chairman Ralph Krueger are reportedly ready to part ways with manager Puel.

Former Swansea boss Monk is keen on managing in the Premier League again and it is unlikely that he will reject a formal offer from Southampton should he be presented with one

Monk has also been linked with the vacant managerial positions at Sunderland and Middlesbrough, though he is not interested in taking charge of the Black Cats and has put a move to Boro on hold.
