Newcastle star describes the late Cheick Tiote as a ‘leader’

Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin has described former team-mate Cheick Tiote as one of the true leaders of Newcastle. Tiote passed away this week after collapsing while training with Beijing Enterprises in China.

Whilst describing, Tiote, Yedlin said, “He was the leader. He’d been at Newcastle for a while so everybody loved him. To hear he’d passed away was tough news on everybody.”

Tiote joined Newcastle from Dutch club FC Twente in 2010 before leaving for Beijing Enterprises in January.

During his time with the Magpies, Tiote played 156 times for the club in all competitions and scored one goal. His one and only goal for the club came during Newcastle’s famous 4-4 draw with Arsenal in 2011, during which they came back from 4-0 down to claim a point.

There is no doubt that majority of the Newcastle players will be affected by the death of Tiote, especially considering that he only parted ways with the club this year.
