This Saturday, June 10, 2017 (9:00 AM Pacific) Azerbaijan will host Northern Ireland at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium in a UEFA World Cup qualifier. Both teams are in a tough fight to make the World Cup in Group C of the competition and need the three points from the game.
Azerbaijan has exceeded expectations in the qualifiers, currently in fourth with seven points in Group C. The win for the Southern European side would be monumental as Northern Ireland is currently in second place with 10 points, only three points ahead of Azerbaijan. The land of fire is currently not in great form, coming off consecutive losses in the World Cup qualifiers. Azerbaijan fell 4-0 to Germany and 4-1 to Northern Ireland. The home side should try and take advantage of playing in front of the home crowd but it should still be a difficult match.
Northern Ireland is doing well and is on its way to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, currently in second with 10 points in Group C. The Green and White Army are going into this encounter in excellent form having won their last two games in the qualifiers and not conceding any goals in those two games. Some of the most intriguing players on the Irish side are the Premier League players like Steven Davis of Southampton and Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt who all play together on West Bromwich Albion. Northern Ireland is the favorite going into the encounter but playing away from home at a tough venue may cause complications which should make for a competitive affair.
