This Friday, June 9, 2017 (11:45 AM Pacific) the Netherlands will host Luxembourg at De Kuip in a UEFA 2018 World Cup Qualifying match. While Luxembourg does not have much to play for the Netherlands will desperately look for the three points which should make for an exciting encounter.
Holland is currently in fourth place with seven points in the contested Group A of the competition. The latest result for the Dutch side in the qualifiers was a disappointing 2-0 loss against Bulgaria which really made Group A an interesting group. The Netherlands is currently six points back of France in first and only three points back of Sweden in second and need the three points for any chance of making the 2018 World Cup. Dick Advocaat does count with a formidable offense which is Holland’s strongest component with players like Arjen Robben, Memphis Depay, Jermain Lens and Bas Dost. The Dutch side should be able to come away with a victory having the stronger side and the home-field advantage.
Luxembourg is eliminated from World Cup contention, currently last in Group A with only a point after five matches. In its last two games, Luxembourg lost both games and was outscored 6-2, this includes a 3-1 loss to the Netherlands at home. The Western European side does have a very young side with 13 players on its roster not exceeding the age of 23. The inexperienced core should not be enough to get past Holland in this encounter but should still make for a hard-fought match.
