England goalkeeper Fraser Forster has said that his country needs to be wary of Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths when they take on Scotland in a World Cup qualifier this Saturday at Hampden Park.
Forster knows Griffiths well having played together with him at Celtic before completing a £10 million move to Southampton in 2014. Forster will likely serve as backup goalkeeper for the Three Lions this weekend.
Though Griffiths, who is set to make his 13th appearance for Scotland, has yet to net a goal for his country – Forster suggested that England need to be wary of his threat, saying, “Leigh is a fantastic player. He has pace to stretch defences but he can score from anywhere. He has a great left foot and can hit the target from outside or inside the box.
“He’s a very tough player to play against. It just takes half a chance or a split-second and he can punish you. He is definitely one player we need to really concentrate on.”
