Aston Villa reportedly set to agree a deal with Italian side for 22-year-old

According to reports, Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini could be set to join Italian club Atalanta on a permanent basis this summer.

After joining the Championship club last summer, Gollini failed to settle into life in England and spent the second half of the season on loan with the Serie A team.

Gollini’s loan spell with Atalanta has also not been successful as he has started just four games, which led many to believe that he could be sent back to Villa.

However it has since emerged that they may swoop for him possibly as they view him as a candidate who can challenge for their first choice goalkeeping position.

Villa manager Steve Bruce appears not to view Gollini as part of his future plans and signed Manchester United’s Sam Johnston as a replacement when the Italian left the club to join Atalanta on loan. Johnstone has played impressively and Bruce is aiming to keep him on loan for next season as well.
