Arsenal have had talks to bring Barcelona winger Arda Turan to the Premier League according to El Desmarque. Turan has agreed to join Arsenal but Arsenal has yet to agree on a fee with Barcelona for Turan.
Although Turan wants to move to Arsenal, Barcelona are holding out to get £26m for him. Wenger is trying to reduce that fee amount and is likely to succeed, as Barca want to complete the sale as soon as possible and a deal could happen within the next few weeks.
Arda Turan completed his move to Barcelona in 2015 from Atletico Madrid for £30m. He has not been able to consistently feature in the starting eleven for Barcelona, as he made just 23 appearances in La Liga and Champions League combined this season.
Turan does have three more years remaining on his contract, but his frustration with the lack of appearances since joining the club is the main reason he is up for sale.
Wenger has had an eye on Turan for a long time now, as he was in the running to sign him from Atletico Madrid before Barcelona completed the move.
The 30 year old winger has been named the captain of the Turkish National Team. Turan captained them during the EURO Championship in 2016. He did not perform well on the big stage, which started his poor play for the rest of the season.
Turan definitely has a lot of talent and is a player that should be able to perform well for Arsenal. It is still unclear if the current wingers for Arsenal will still be on the team for next season. Those include Alexis Sanchez and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who have been linked to a lot of transfer speculation this coming week.
Whether Wenger decides to keep Alexis and Oxlade-Chamberlain or not, Turan is a signing that makes sense for Arsenal. Arsenal have always needed help scoring goals in big games and Turan can look to provide big plays with his talent. He is very crafty in the attack and could help players like Giroud and Ozil score more goals.
For Turan, a new team is needed as he feel out of the spotlight in Barcelona. Wenger will give Turan plenty of opportunities for Turan to succeed if he does indeed sign him. The Turkish International would love to play for Arsenal and Arsenal would love for him to play for them.
