According to reports, the six-year-old, who served as mascot of Sunderland last season, Bradley Lowery, has just weeks to live.
Lowery is said to be suffering from Neuroblastoma and his condition has touched people all around the world. He formed a close relationship with Jermain Defoe during the course of last season.
A statement which details the condition of Lowery which is presumed to be written by his Mother stated, “I was told Bradley has now only got weeks to live because of how rapid the cancer is spreading. Yes, I knew this was coming but I thought it was going to be months not weeks.”
Many thousands of pounds have been donated by the public towards Bradley’s condition and his parents hope to donate money that does not go towards his treatment to a good cause.
Jermain Defoe and Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone were in attendance at his 6th birthday celebrations two weeks ago.
While the performances of Sunderland did not bring much joy to its fans this past season, the presence of the young Lowery on the pitch certainly did.
