Rangers’ new signing backed to succeed at Ibrox by ex-Porto star

Former FC Porto striker Benni McCarthy has said that former team-mate Bruno Alves is a good signing for Rangers. The veteran defender Alves who was part of Portugal’s victorious Euro 2016 team joined Rangers last week to become Pedro Caixinha’s first signing.

The 35-year-old Alves is no stranger to winning trophies and will add much needed experience to the Gers. Alves began his career with Porto and won nine major trophies during his time with the Dragons.

During his time with Zenit St Petersburg, he won two League titles as well as the Russian Cup.  After leaving Zenit, Alves joined Turkish club Fenerbahce with whom he won one League title and well as a Turkish Super Cup.

McCarthy, who was a key forward for Porto when Alves was breaking into the side, feels that his former team-mate will be a good fit for the Gers.

The South African said, “Bruno is very composed and calm on the ball so he will help the way the manager wants to play things from the back. Bruno is the perfect fit for what the manager is trying to bring to Rangers right now.”
