Newcastle reportedly closing in on a deal for defender with £8.7million release

According to reports, Newcastle United are closing in on a deal to sign La Liga defender Florian Lejeune.

The 26-year-old Lejeune reportedly has a £8.7 million release clause in his contract and the Magpies are keen on signing him as they look at bolstering their defensive options ahead of next season.

After failing to establish himself at Premier League giants Manchester City, Lejeune joined Girona on loan in 2016 before moving to Eibar where he began to impress with his performances.

Grant Hanley is set to leave the Magpies after becoming surplus to requirements at the club and as a result, Lejuene will be a good addition to the squad.

The French international was ever-present for Eibar last season, playing 37 times in La Liga and scoring one goal as well as recording one assist. He may also be keen on a move to Newcastle considering that it will allow him to play in the Premier League.
