Everton reportedly on the verge of signing 27-year-old Dutchman

According to reports, Everton are closing in on the signing of Southampton defender Cuco Martina. Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is a fan of Martina and was the person who brought him to England whilst he was manager of Southampton.

Martina has struggled to earn regular game time this past season and started only six games in the League and came off the bench three times.

After becoming surplus to requirements at Southampton, Martina has been released by Southampton and it looks like he will be handed a Premier League lifeline by Koeman.

Martina could be a handy signing for the Toffees. Given that Seamus Coleman’s long term injury will likely rule him out of the first few weeks of next season, Martina could deputize, though he will have to compete with talented youngster Mason Holgate.

Martina could also become useful for the Toffees given that they will play in the Europa League next season as Koeman may be in need of extra squad rotation players.
