Aston Villa reportedly planning to reignite interest in 29-year-old international defender

According to reports, Aston Villa could reignite their interest in signing Vegard Forren after Steve Bruce missed out on the defender’s signature during the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old Forren instead opted to move to Brighton and Hove Albion, who achieved promotion to the Premier League.

The player however did not play a single game for Brighton since arriving at the club and manager Chris Hughton has opted not to hand him a new contract at the club.

Steve Bruce is reportedly on the lookout for more defensive recruits this summer to provide competition to the likes of Nathan Baker, James Chester and Tommy Elphick, has targeted a move for Forren.

The fact that Forren is likely to be made available for free could be attractive to Bruce. The Norway international is unlikely to start on a regular basis given that Chester and Baker are performing well, however he could provide valuable cover and competition for the duo.
