According to reports, English Premier League club Everton are considering a bid for Aston Villa target Sam Johnstone should they fail to lure Jordan Pickford from Sunderland.
Johnstone is surplus to requirements at Manchester United and will likely be allowed to leave this summer.
The 24-year-old Johnstone spent the second half of this season on loan with Villa and impressed during the 21 League games that he played, recording eight clean sheets.
Villa manager Steve Bruce is said to be keen on securing another season long loan deal for Johnstone. Everton are also looking to sign another goalkeeper to challenge for their first choice position following high profile errors from Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles this season.
Since the departure of Tim Howard, the Toffees have never found themselves a long-term first choice keeper. Though Villa are hoping to secure another deal to keep Johnstone at Villa Park, Everton’s interest may make reaching a deal difficult.
