Newcastle to reportedly battle Juventus for African star

Newcastle United and Serie A giants Juventus are set to compete for the signature of Ghanaian international Afriyie Acquah.

The 25-year-old Acquah notched two goals from 20 appearances for Torino, who finished in ninth position on the Serie A standings this season.

Ghana Soccernet have claimed that Acquah is a priority target for Magpies manager Rafa Benitez as the Newcastle manager is looking to strengthen his side ahead of its return to the top flight next season.

Reports have also added that Benitez had wanted to sign Acquah last summer after his side were relegated to the Championship. The Magpies will now have to compete with Juventus.

Though Acquah may not get regular first team opportunities should he move to the “Old Lady” of Italian football, the temptation of playing for arguably one of the best sides in Italy and Europe may be more tempting than getting a taste of Premier League football with modest Newcastle.
