Newcastle United have reportedly joined Everton and Southampton in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Ruben Semedo.
Portuguese news site Ojogo have further claimed that Magpies manager Rafa Benitez has been tracking Semedo for the whole of last season.
Southampton manager Claude Puel also reportedly sees the 23 year old Ojogo as a replacement for former captain Jose Fonte, who joined West Ham during the January transfer window.
The Portugal under-21 international Semedo is highly rated and is a product of the Sporting Lisbon academy which also produced legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo.
However a sale for the player will not come cheaply as he signed a contract extension with Lisbon in March to keep him at the club until 2022 with the contract containing a release clause of £40 million.
Due to the interest that is being generated around Semedo from various clubs, it is unlikely that he will remain at Lisbon for the long term.
