Former Aberdeen midfielder Neale Cooper has encouraged his former club to be difficult and make Celtic pay a high price if they are to lure winger Jonny Hayes.

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly interested in bringing Hayes to Parkhead ahead of next season. While Cooper insisted that his former club should try not to sell Hayes, he said that if they do, it should be for a sum of money that becomes a new club record.

Cooper encouraged his former club to be difficult with the treble winning Celtic, saying, “Jonny has two years left on his contract so you would be looking at way into a million pounds or two.

“You could also look at a Celtic player potentially being part of a deal, too. It would have to be a very, very good offer because for me Jonny is the main man at Aberdeen”.

Currently, Aberdeen’s record sale was that of Eoin Jess who Coventry City paid £1.75 million to lure in 1997. Considering that Celtic will offer the prospect of Champions League football, Hayes will likely be keen to link up with the Bhoys.
