Newcastle United have issued a statement stating that defender Paul Dummett’s decision to make himself unavailable for selection for the Wales national team is only temporary.
The 25-year-old ruled himself out of Chris Coleman’s squad that will face off against Serbia. Dummett has featured twice for Wales, with both appearances coming in international friendlies.
He qualified for Wales through his grandfather and is still eligible for England selection as he has not yet represented the Dragons in a competitive fixture.
Newcastle’s statement stated, “Dummett… has not closed the door on his international career and hopes to represent the Dragons again in the future.
“The left-back won’t be involved in next month’s World Cup qualifier in Serbia… but has not retired from international football altogether.”
Dummett was included in Wales pre Euro 2016 training camp though he failed to make the final squad. He has also yet to feature in Wales 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.
