Everton are set to sign defender Cuco Martina on a free transfer following the defender’s release from Southampton, according to the Sun.
Koeman had previously tried to buy the Dutch international last summer but failed after Southampton refused to comply.
Southampton recently confirmed that Martina has been released along with the likes of Lloyd Isgrove, Harley Willard and Martin Caceres.
Seamus Coleman, who suffered a long term injury while on international duty which is likely to keep him out for the opening of next season, will need to be replaced for a major portion of next season and Martina will be an apt choice as a natural right-back.
In addition to this, the 27-year-old Martina is very versatile and is always a useful option to a team. However, it comes as no surprise that Martina has been released by Southampton.
He failed to earn regular game time under Claude Puel this season, making only 18 appearances in all competitions and the only highlight of his time at St Mary’s was probably the wonder strike against Arsenal last season.
