West Bromwich and West Ham both interested in Manchester United star

West Brom and West Ham are reportedly set to compete for the signature of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling. The England international is set to leave United after falling out with manager Jose Mourinho.

Smalling has been on the books of United since 2010 and currently serves as cover for Marcus Rojo, Eric Bailly and Daley Blind. With the Red Devils expected to recruit more defenders during the summer, the England international could be set to slip further down the pecking order should he opt to remain with United.

A move away from Old Trafford may be necessary if Smalling wishes to make the England squad for the 2018 World Cup. With Gareth McAuley approaching the end of his career, West Brom will be looking for a replacement.

West Ham are also looking to bring in proven Premier League performers as they look to improve after what has been a slightly disappointing season for them.
