Newcastle United could be set to re-sign former midfielder Mehdi Abeid according to reports from France. The 24-year-old joined the Magpies from French outfit Lens in 2011 and ended up leaving in 2015 after failing to win regular first team football at the club.
Abeid spent last season with French Ligue 1 outfit Dijon and impressed as he helped the club avoid relegation, managing three goals from 28 matches in the process.
These displays are thought to have attracted a number of clubs including Newcastle. Though the Algeria international admitted that he is attached to Dijon, he has not ruled out the possibility of leaving the club, recently saying, “I am very attached to the DFCO and therefore to the Dijon project, but I do not close any doors.”
Newcastle will definitely be making new signings during the summer as they look to perform well in the Premier League next season but a move for Abeid may not exactly impress fans.
