This Wednesday, May 24, 2017 (4:00 AM Pacific) Costa Rica will play Portugal in the 2017 U20 World Cup at the Jeju World Cup Stadium in Jeju, South Korea. Both teams lost their first game in Group C of the competition and will be looking to obtain their first three points of the tournament.
Costa Rica had a bit of a surprising loss, falling 1-0 to Iran in the first match day of their U20 World Cup campaign. The Central American team dominated the encounter with a staggering 60-percent possession and more attempts than its opposition. Costa Rica’s downfall was that it could not be clinical in front of net as the ‘ticos’ had no shots on target. The CONCACAF side had a decent showing in its first game and should be able to give a hard-fought performance in this match.
Like Costa Rica, Portugal also had a disappointing loss, losing 2-1 to Zambia in its first game of the tournament. Portugal dominated the game having more possession and did look like the better team with more scoring opportunities than its opposition. Zambia’s goalkeeper was influential in the European team’s loss as he managed to get himself four saves in the encounter. Portugal’s goalkeeper, Diogo Costa also had a solid game picking up five saves himself. The lone goal for The European’s came in stoppage time by Helder who came on as a substitute in the 61st minute. The match should be an intriguing one between two teams that came away with undeserved losses in their first games of the competition.
