According to reports, Newcastle are closing in on securing a new deal with midfielder Sean Longstaff. The Magpies are reportedly keen on renewing the contract of the 19-year-old after he managed to impress while on loan with Scottish club Kilmarnock this season.
During his time with the Newcastle under-23 side in Premier League 2 this season, Longstaff scored six goals and notched three assists before being sent to Kilmarnock where he scored three times from 16 matches in all competitions.
Longstaff is a product of the Newcastle youth development system and has not yet made a senior appearance for the senior team. He is expected to be sent out on loan again next season to continue his development.
Should Longstaff wish to one day play for the Magpies first team, next season will be crucial. If he fails to impress the Magpies staff, the chances are high that the club will offload him.
