In the semifinals of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Chivas of Guadalajara will host Toluca at the Estadio Chivas this Sunday, May 21, 2017 (4:06 PM Pacific). The first match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Estadio Nemesio Diez and both teams will be looking to advance to the final.

Chivas of Guadalajara were the slightly better team in a very even matchup in the first leg of this series. Los Rojiblancos dominated the first half of the encounter and did slow down significantly in the second half. Having Rodolfo Pizarro really proved to make a difference as the Mexican midfielder scored Chivas’ lone goal of the game. Angel Zaldivar was also impressive in his first game back from injury, really solidifying the attack for Matias Almeyda. With a full squad, Matias Almeyda’s side can be serious title contenders and should be able to get past Toluca in the semifinals.

Toluca has had its flaws all year long but still look like a solid opponent that can make it difficult for Guadalajara this Sunday. Hernan Cristante counts with an experienced core that is accustomed to playing in vital encounters. While having a plethora of veterans on the team can be rewarding sometimes it is a disadvantage because some of the players to lack pace. This is especially difficult against a team like Chivas who have several young players with rapid pace. Toluca is not the favorite especially not away from home but can give a rough battle to Guadalajara in this match. The game should be the more intriguing of the two semi-final games as Tigres UANL already have a foot in the door in the final while this matchup is still wide open.
