Aston Villa boosted in their hopes of completing deal with Manchester United

Aston Villa’s hopes of keeping goalkeeper Sam Johnstone at the club beyond this season has been boosted as Everton have reportedly switched their attention on securing a deal for Sunderland shot-stopper Jordan Pickford.

Though Bournemouth are still thought to be interested, Villa could have the upper hand especially considering that they will offer the 24-year -old regular first team action.

Johnstone moved from Manchester United to Villa during the January transfer window in a deal which ran until the end of the season.

During his time with the Villans, Johnstone impressed making 21 Championship appearances and keeping 8 clean sheets. Based on his performances, Villa will look to keep him on as they look to build upon what was a disappointing season for them in the Championship.

Considering that there is very little chance of Johnstone featuring for the United first team, they will likely considering selling him or loaning him out once again.
