Shearer skeptical of Benitez staying put at Newcastle United

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has said that he remains skeptical of the club despite the fact that Rafa Benitez has agreed to remain as manager for next season.

In only his first full season in charge, Benitez led the Magpies back to the Premier League and recently committed his future to the club after owner Mike Ashley agreed to grant the Spaniard sufficient capital to make new signings during the summer.

After praising the work Benitez has done this season, Shearer said, “Newcastle won the Championship and then of course a few days later Rafa has talks with the owner, Mike Ashley, says he’s staying and Mike has promised that there is big funds there for Rafa to spend, which is great news.

“But actions speak louder than words and we’ll have to wait and see whether that will happen but hopefully will and it’s all good news for Newcastle.

“There’s big improvements needed and Rafa will know in which positions, I’m sure he’s already started the process of going out and trying to sign players.”

In Benitez, Newcastle certainly have one of the best managers of the modern day game. They can expect interesting signings during the summer.
