Aston Villa are set to compete with Birmingham City to sign veteran defender Christopher Samba.
Though the 33-year-old has been training with Villa, being reunited with Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp, who he had worked with at QPR, may be tempting.
Redknapp also wrote in his column in the London Evening Standard last week, “There are already two or three players available on frees I have got my eye on who could come in and do a job for us. Samba could be one of them.”
Samba will be available for free after leaving Greek club Panathinaikos. Though it remains to be seen whether the Congo international can still compete at the highest level on a regular basis, he has a wealth of Premier League experience, having made 161 League appearances for Rovers between 2007 and 2012, scoring 16 goals in the process.
He could be a useful squad addition as well as provide leadership skills.
