Newcastle United are reportedly planning a surprise bid for Wes Morgan from Leicester City, per The Sun. The Magpies are looking to bolster their defence ahead of their Premier League return next season.
Though the Foxes have had a disappointing season, following their unlikely Premier League triumph last season, Morgan signed a new three year contract to remain at the King Power Stadium in July.
It will thus be difficult for the Magpies to lure the 33 year old. After moving to Leicester in January 2012, Morgan has gone on to make 230 games for the team and serves as club captain.
Considering that the Jamaica international is a Premier League winner and also has a lot of experience and leadership qualities, he may be a good signing for Rafa Benitez’s side. However, it is hard to see Leicester selling, as Morgan is something of a cult figure at the club. The Magpies will need to consider alternative options.
