It was reported recently by Leon that its defender, Guillermo Burdisso will miss most of the Apertura 2017 because of an ACL injury. The surgery was a success but Burdisso is set to miss at least six months recovering from the injury.
This can prove to be a huge problem for La Fiera as the Argentine was one of Leon’s most reliable defenders. Diego Novaretti, of course, has some serious disciplinary issues while Ignacio Gonzalez is regressing and will be 33 in less than two months. Javier Torrente did not have a successful campaign with Los Esmeraldas finishing in 14th place with 20 points. William Yarbrough was worked a lot during the tournament getting 63 saves in the Clausura.
This showcases the defensive problems Leon did have and Javier Torrente will need to look for a replacement for Burdisso soon. A replacement that quickly comes to mind is Pachuca’s Stefan Medina who was not a consistent starter for Los Tuzos and could be a player Diego Alonso is willing to let go. Of course, Pachuca and Leon do swap players often because they are both owned by Grupo Pachuca and this could be a deal that makes sense for both parties.
