Wayne Rooney, who has been rumored to return to his boyhood club, Everton, revealed on Wednesday that he would like to remain with current club Manchester United despite seeing limited playing time this season.
The 31 year old has made only 22 starts in all competitions this season, which will no doubt be disappointing for him, considering he has been an icon of the club throughout the years.
When asked on Wednesday if he would like to remain at United next season, Rooney replied “Of course”.
Earlier this season, Rooney made history by becoming United’s all-time leading goal scorer. It remains to be seen what will happen to the England captain during the summer. Jose Mourinho may be looking to offload him in order to reduce the club’s salary expenditure. It may be a good idea for Rooney to part ways with the club if he also wishes to be a part of England’s 2018 World Cup campaign.
