According to reports, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is keen to keep Sam Johnstone at the club. Since joining Aston Villa from Manchester United on loan in January, Johnstone has gone on to make 21 appearances for the club.

The 24 year old has just a year left on his current contract at United. Considering that he has not yet made a senior appearance for the first team, it is unlikely that he will form part of Jose Mourinho’s future plans.

The performances of Johnstone have also reportedly attracted the interest of other clubs. Sunderland boss David Moyes is said to be interested in luring him to the Stadium of Light, given that Jordan Pickford is destined to leave the Black Cats.

Remaining at Villa may be a good choice for Johnstone. He has managed to establish himself as the clubs first choice shot-stopper and should get regular game time should he stay.
