In week 17 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Necaxa will host Chivas of Guadalajara at the Estadio Victoria this Saturday, May 6, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). While Chivas has already secured its playoff spot, Necaxa is in the mix with seven other teams for the last two remaining playoff positions.
Necaxa started off the Liga MX Clausura 2017 quite slow but has really picked it up in the last few weeks. Los Rayos are currently in 13th place with 20 points and are coming off three consecutive victories. In this run, Necaxa has only conceded one goal playing true to Alfonso Sosa’s roots and demonstrating a counter-attacking style of play.
Edson Puch has been the standout player in this run, scoring in all three games, now at six goals in the Clausura tournament. The Chilean will be the standout player to look out for in this game and will need to perform for Los Rayos to get a win against Los Rojiblancos.
Chivas of Guadalajara is already guaranteed a spot in La Liguilla but will still look to get a favorable result from this game to get a higher seed going into the playoffs. El Rebano Sagrado is currently in fourth place with 26 points and mathematically still has a chance to come out as the first-place team. Chivas has not won in its last four games and will be looking to change the momentum going into the playoffs.
Matias Almeyda will still be without Rodolfo Pizarro or Angel Zaldivar in this game which could prove to be difficult even with the talented squad he does already have. Los Tapatios have already lifted silverware this year and will look to get a win in this match to go in with some momentum heading into the playoffs.
