According to reports former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka could be set to replace David Moyes as manager of Sunderland should the Scot part ways with the club at the end of the season.

The Black Cats were officially relegated from the Premier League after their defeat to Bournemouth during the weekend and with Moyes giving no definite answer on whether he would like to continue as manager of the troubled club beyond this season, the future remains uncertain.

Though Moyes has said that he wishes to improve the recruitment of players into the Sunderland squad, he has yet to indicate whether he will definitely remain at the club.

The Scot is set to have important talks with club owner Ellis Short and chief executive Martin Bain over the coming days, where the club’s future aims will be highlighted.

It is likely that a decision over who the manager of the club will be for next season will be made at these talks.
