In week 16 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Puebla will host Necaxa at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc this Sunday, April 30, 2017 (4:00 PM Pacific). Both teams have been among the weakest sides in the Liga MX this tournament and a great game is not expected.
Puebla has been the worst team in this Clausura 2017 coming in at last place with only 13 points. Despite the lackluster tournament, the ‘camoteros’ did save themselves from relegation and will be looking to improve things next season. Jose Cardozo’s side is coming from a tough 1-0 loss to Leon away from home but did win their last home game against Cruz Azul, 2-1. There have been few bright spots for ‘la franja’ this season but striker, Pedro Alexis Canelo has been one of those bright spots with four goals and four assists this Clausura. Canelo will be an interesting player to look out for in this encounter and expect the Argentine to make an impact on this game.
Necaxa has had a disappointing tournament after emerging as dark horses in the Apertura 2016 competition. The ‘rayos’ are currently in 15th place with 17 points and a chance at making the playoffs seems slim to none. Necaxa is coming from two consecutive victories and will be looking for another one in this match. Alfonso Sosa has also had very few bright spots on his team, one has been Chilean forward, Edson Puch who has five goals and an assist this tournament. The match should be an intriguing encounter that will not have much of an impact this season but could have an impact in next season’s relegation race.
