Pachuca unlike its opposition in this game does have a legitimate chance at making the playoffs, currently in ninth place with 20 points. The ‘tuzos’ are coming from a monumental win in the final of the CONCACAF Champions League against Tigres UANL and should come into this game with motivation to get the three points. Pachuca has been struggling in the Liga MX competition recently, not having scored a goal in its last six games. Despite this, Diego Alonso still counts with the second-best defense in the tournament, having only conceded 12 goals so far.
Alonso does have some potent players in his attack like Hirving Lozano and Franco Jara but the inability to be clinical has been present all tournament long. Pachuca has been shut out nine times in this Clausura and will need to score in this game for its playoff push. The game will not be easy but it is a winnable game against a weaker opposition in Cruz Azul.
Cruz Azul does still have a slight chance to make the playoffs, currently in 14th place with 17 points. The ‘cementeros’ are coming from an enormous 2-1 win against Chivas of Guadalajara in week 15 of the competition. Angel Mena will be the main player to watch on ‘la maquina’ having scored his fifth goal of the tournament in that game against Chivas.
It was rumored that the Ecuadorian has now received attention in Europe for his services from the Italian club, Palermo. The pacey and skillful winger will be the main player to watch on Cruz Azul as he can make a difference out on the pitch. The game is an important one for the Mexico City side and the encounter should prove to be a hard-fought match.
