In week 16 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Chivas of Guadalajara will host Leon at the Estadio Chivas this Saturday, April 29, 2017 (5:06 PM Pacific). Both teams are looking to make the playoffs this tournament and will need the three points from this match.
Chivas of Guadalajara is coming from a disastrous 2-1 loss to Cruz Azul in week 15 of the competition. The ‘tapatios’ are currently in fourth place with 25 points but have not secured a playoff spot just yet. Chivas does have plenty of motivation to reach the playoffs and have a successful tournament having won the Copa MX competition not too long ago. Matias Almeyda has not relied heavily on any single player but has received a solid team effort by Chivas.
Some of the standouts have been in the midfield with players like Rodolfo Pizarro and Orbelin Pineda having tremendous campaigns. Unfortunately, Chivas will not count with Pizarro or Angel Zaldivar for this encounter which will put a high reliance on players like Orbelin Pineda and Alan Pulido. The game will be a tricky one for Guadalajara, especially without Pizarro or Zaldivar.
Leon is flying high coming off two consecutive victories and will look to win this game for its playoff push. The ‘esmeraldas’ defense has really been a strong component lately, only conceding one goal in their last five games. Mauro Boselli has also made a bit of a late resurgence in this tournament having scored his fifth goal of the Clausura in Leon’s last game against Puebla. Javier Torrente will also have some key absences in this encounter with Elias Hernandez and Diego Novaretti being out for the rest of the tournament.
Hernandez is a huge blow as the Mexican winger was excelling in this tournament, having scored five goals. Leon is currently in 11th place with 19 points and this game is basically a must-win to have any chance of making the playoffs. The game should be a thrilling encounter and prove to be one of the best this weekend in the Liga MX.
