Chiapas started out the Clausura 2017 in intriguing fashion but now has made a turn for the worse. The franchise has had problems all year long from not being able to pay its players to scandals between head coach, Sergio Bueno and some of the players. The problems for the ‘jaguares’ have stemmed far from the field and has made them a favorite to relegate to the Ascenso MX. Chiapas has not been able to win in seven consecutive games and a win in this game does seem unlikely.
Home-field advantage is also not much of a factor at the Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna, with only three home wins for Chiapas in this competition. There are a couple of bright spot on the team like the goalkeeper, Moises Munoz and attacking midfielder, Felix Micolta. The Colombian, Micolta has been spectacular as of late and is a pacey, skillful player that can make a difference out on the pitch. The game will not be easy for Chiapas but Sergio Bueno’s men must find a way to get a favorable result from this match.
Santos Laguna is currently looking to secure a playoff spot in fifth place with 24 points. The ‘guerreros’ are on an outstanding run, undefeated in their last six games, obtaining three wins in this span. Jose Manuel de la Torre’s men are coming off a huge 2-1 victory over Club America, where a late goal in stoppage time by the midfielder, Diego De Buen made the difference. Santos has had problems maintaining leads all year long and needs to sort that out to make the playoffs and be successful in the competition.
Jose Manuel de la Torre counts with a very strong team that is solid all around with a potent attack with players like Djaniny Tavares and Jonathan Rodriguez and a solid defense led by Nestor Araujo and Carlos Izquierdoz. The Celestial Warriors should be able to secure their spot in the playoffs with a win in this game even playing away from home.
