Newcastle United forward Daryl Murphy has told fans of his club not to panic as they look to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.
The veteran Murphy indicated that everyone should be calm saying, “Don’t panic, we know it is still in our own hands. We go back to St James’ Park knowing we can’t play as bad as that again and we will have the home fans behind us.”
Despite being favorites to win the Championship title for much of the season, the Magpies have had a slump in form recently and have lost top spot on the standings to Brighton and Hove Albion, who they now trail by several points.
Rafa Benitez’s side have failed to secure a win in their past three matches and take on Preston North End on Monday.
Newcastle will be well aware that a loss could add to their pressure as they have a six point lead over Reading, who occupy third position and who will be trying to challenge for the second automatic promotion spot.
