Established striker admits to talks with Sunderland

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has revealed that Sunderland approached him about possibly playing for the club earlier in the season and that he had wished to sign a deal with the Black Cats.

The former Bulgaria international striker said, “I want to play and to be honest, I had a conversation with a couple of managers – even the Sunderland one. But in the end, nothing happened.”

A deal however failed to materialize after David Moyes club did not follow up on the initial talks which they held with the veteran forward. The Bulgarian did reveal that he is keeping fit and he wishes to continue his career.

It is understandable as to why the Wearside club did not sign the 36 year old. It would have been a risk to have signed him considering that his age could make it difficult for him to withstand the intensity of the League.
